Weißenburgpark Playground, Stuttgart

A Scenic Play and Discovery Landscape

Originally built for the 1961 Federal Garden Exhibition, the playground in Weißenburgpark, located in Stuttgart-South, has been comprehensively redesigned and updated to meet today’s standards.

The goal was to create an attractive urban space for families to relax, play, and explore – beautifully embedded in the scenic hillside landscape of the Bopser.
The centerpiece of the new design is a large, vibrantly colored wooden climbing structure. With its multi-layered access points, vertical variety, and diverse movement opportunities, it invites adventurous play while supporting motor skill development. Slides, balancing elements, and climbing features offer space for active, unstructured play. The play slope is further enhanced by a dynamic tube slide that blends naturally into the newly planted terrain.

A separate toddler area features its own slide, a water play zone with pump, channels, and seesaw, along with sand play equipment. Numerous seating areas made of red sandstone provide a comfortable place for parents and children alike. The playground is framed by a wave-like border of mosaic paving, and the resource-conscious use of repurposed materials gives the space an authentic and sustainable character.

As part of the redesign, an old restroom facility was removed to open up sweeping views from the park’s elevated position toward the nearby forest and cityscape. The new Weißenburgpark play slope unites recreation, nature experience, and quality outdoor space for all generations.
