Modernization of the town center
As part of the urban renewal initiative in the Beutelsbach district of Weinstadt, we are redesigning the historic town center to make it more attractive, livable, and future-ready. The aim is to unlock existing potential, improve the quality of public space, and enhance everyday life for residents.
Key elements include narrowing the roadway, creating wide street edges, implementing one-way traffic regulations, and reducing vehicle speeds. Together, these measures establish a calmer traffic environment and provide more space for pedestrians and cyclists. The new street cross-section allows for linear, barrier-free zones with high-quality seating and furnishings.
The paving concept combines red and gray granite in both linear and radial patterns with varied surface textures. This careful material selection highlights the historic character of the old town while introducing modern design elements. The goal is to preserve the charm of the historic setting while translating it into a contemporary urban language.
A central component of the design is extensive greening: existing Norway maples are preserved and complemented by American linden trees—robust, climate-resilient, and ecologically valuable. Grassed lines, perennial plantings, green raised beds made of rammed concrete, and semi-permeable surfaces enhance the streetscape and contribute to a pleasant microclimate. The result is a public space that is both functionally effective and atmospherically inviting.
