Multi-generational living with vision
At the northeastern edge of Leonberg, a vibrant, green, and intergenerational residential quarter is planned. It will include a daycare center and senior housing and offer affordable living space for a range of income levels. The competition called for innovative, smart housing concepts that respond to the prominent hillside location and the transition to the surrounding landscape. The new neighborhood is envisioned to stand out through high architectural quality, sustainable open space design, and the integration of forward-thinking mobility solutions.
Our open space concept proposed a strategic placement of small point buildings to create a diverse network of shared outdoor spaces with multiple functions. A clear orthogonal path system structures the quarter and connects all buildings, with entrances facing inward to encourage community interaction. At the heart of the development, a small plaza with tree canopy, water feature, and seating areas forms the social hub of the site, complemented by a mobility hub at the western entrance.
The landscape design follows the principles of a “sponge city”: rainwater is retained on site and reused for irrigation. Additional features include private gardens, a quiet play area on the northeastern edge, generous outdoor spaces for the daycare, and flexible exterior areas for the townhouses.
