Ecological and design enhancement

Alongside the construction of the new Tannenbergstraße daycare center, we implemented a sensitively planned infrastructure project with significant ecological added value. The existing pedestrian and cycle path partly ran within the protected riparian zone of the Jauchertbach stream and therefore had to be relocated through a formal water law approval process.
We designed the new route to protect the stream banks while providing a safe and comfortable connection for pedestrians and cyclists – featuring gentle curves, a clear alignment and a permeable surface that supports infiltration and improves the microclimate. As an ecological compensation measure, the stream corridor was upgraded: the bank was flattened, reshaped and planted with site-appropriate shrubs and trees. A small gravel beach now offers intentional access to the water, making the stream tangible and enjoyable for children and passers-by. The redesigned streambed, with varied flow patterns and calm zones, encourages the settlement of insects, amphibians and small fish and brings the sound of flowing water back into the urban space.
Additionally, previously sealed bank areas were revitalized with natural vegetation, while the valuable existing trees were fully preserved – a successful example of combining infrastructure with long-term ecological improvement.
