Representative permanent vegetation
In 2019, Kraneninsel in the center of Heilbronn was part of the Federal Horticultural Show (BUGA). In the years that followed, we were entrusted with the development and implementation of new planting and maintenance concepts for the heavily frequented square. In the first two years, we created new planting plans for spring and summer planting based on Petra Pelz's BUGA designs. Strollers and visitors to Kraneninsel often marveled at the tropical-looking appearance with banana trees, green lilies, and eucalyptus and were impressed by the abundance of plants and colorful splendor.
Starting in the fall, the task was to transform the approximately 900 square meters of seasonal flower beds into a permanent installation that was both representative and ecologically high-quality with a pleasant atmosphere. To this end, we rearranged the paths and restructured the existing tree islands. A newly developed color concept was created for the beds, featuring natural woody plants, sustainable perennials, and early-blooming flower bulbs, with an emphasis on the use of native species. The plantings now provide year-round visual appeal and vibrant blooms, while also serving as vital food sources for insects and birds.
The landscaped areas are irrigated using a smart system controlled by weather data, helping to optimize maintenance efforts and minimize water consumption.
