New Sports hall Schömberg - 2./3. Prize

Between Forest and Motion

At the northern edge of Schömberg, a new modern sports hall is planned on a wooded ridge east of state road L343. The site is strongly defined by its surrounding landscape. As the new building aligns itself with this natural edge, our open-space concept focuses on a clear, functional and landscape-anchored structure for the outdoor areas. Parking is arranged compactly between the forest edge and the open terrain—within the transition zone between the existing hall, the access road and the new building. Rows of trees structure this area, provide shade, frame key sightlines and guide views into the surrounding landscape. A skate facility is integrated spatially between the parking area and the tree rows.
The tree formations consolidate into grouped plantings that wrap around the new sports hall. These structures act as a unifying green framework, linking the architecture to the adjacent forest. The forecourt of the sports hall is organised both functionally and atmospherically into three zones: an arrival area that provides orientation and a welcoming entrance; a generous foyer zone with a stepped landscape offering seating and views into the surrounding nature; and an open activity zone featuring integrated climbing and balancing elements that function as meeting place, stage and active stay area. The stepped structure becomes a tribune—an informal place to sit, gather and observe.
Altogether, the forecourt conveys openness, activity and a high quality of stay, forming a vibrant space between the forest edge and the sports hall.
