“Kugelpfad” Nature Experience Trail, Denkendorf

Exploring Nature and Region Through Play

The 2.5-kilometer “Kugelpfad” (Marble Trail) leads through the picturesque orchards and cultural landscapes surrounding Denkendorf. Since its opening in fall 2023, the circular route has become a popular destination for families, school groups, kindergartens, walkers, and local clubs—a unique recreational trail where landscape, play, education, and design come together.

Thirteen themed adventure and quiz stations invite visitors to explore local features such as traditional orchards, the former monastery, and the town’s history in a playful and engaging way. Each station combines site-specific content with interactive marble tracks, play elements, and landscape features. Wooden marbles, available from vending machines, accompany visitors along the trail and bring both kids and adults into motion.

Large swings, climbing features, and slides expand the nature-oriented play offerings. Educational panels share fascinating information about local flora, fauna, and cultural history, and are digitally linked to the “Denkendorf App” via QR codes.
We developed the Kugelpfad conceptually, guided the planning process, and oversaw its construction. Special emphasis was placed on harmoniously integrating the path into the landscape, using durable, nature-friendly materials, and ensuring accessible design wherever possible.

What makes the Kugelpfad truly remarkable is its origin as a collaborative community project: developed in close cooperation with local volunteers, businesses, and engaged citizens, this identity-shaping experience space radiates far beyond Denkendorf itself.
