Ready for tomorrow
As part of a combined urban design ideas and architectural realization competition, a forward-thinking plan was developed for a new fire station and Red Cross (DRK) rescue facility. The aim was to integrate all functional requirements into a compelling overall concept from both urban planning and landscape design perspectives.
Our proposal addresses the operational needs of emergency services while contributing to the development of the roughly 15,000 m² site, which also offers potential for around 38 residential units with approximately 95 future residents. A central element of the open space design is a generously greened exterior with shade-giving trees, high-quality recreational areas, and a designated barbecue space for emergency personnel. Its connection to the existing bike path and nearby recreational amenities encourages use by all groups.
The landscape concept strictly follows the principles of a climate-resilient city. Paved surfaces were minimized. Retention areas and rooftop retention boxes slow down evaporation and water runoff – contributing to a small-scale sponge city solution.
