Experimenta Square, Heilbronn

Urban space design with identity

Experimenta in the center of Heilbronn is Germany's largest science center. Natural science and technology can be experienced in a historic building and a futuristic new building. Between the two heterogeneous buildings is the approximately 7,000 square meter Experimenta Square, which extends to the newly created seating steps on the Neckar River. In 2019, we created this representative open space, which serves as an architectural link. The small stone paving made of basanite rock with light-colored, pentagonal inlays laid in a random pattern (passe) ensures a distinctive look. The polygonal edging of the tree islands continues the architectural theme and invites visitors to sit down. At night, the square is atmospherically illuminated by lampposts of varying heights. We are continuously developing Experimenta Square both visually and functionally.
